  • Does calling CPY Law mean I have hired the firm?

No. Contacting us for an initial consultation does not obligate you to hire CPY Law. Representation begins only after the necessary parties enter into a written agreement.

Speak With a Kansas City Personal Injury Lawyer

If you were injured in a car crash, commercial truck collision, dog bite, dangerous-property incident, or another event caused by negligence, cost should not prevent you from learning about your options.

CPY Law offers free personal injury consultations to injured people and families in Missouri and Kansas.

Call us today at 816-839-5150 or submit our online form to tell us what happened. We will listen, ask questions, and explain the next step.

No hourly attorney’s fees. No upfront attorney’s fees for your personal injury cases. No attorney’s fee unless we recover money for you.

  • Will I know how much I will receive before the settlement is distributed?

You will receive a written settlement breakdown identifying the recovery and proposed deductions before funds are distributed. CPY Law will review the breakdown with you and answer your questions.

  • Will medical bills be taken out of my settlement?

Medical bills, reimbursement claims, or valid liens may need to be addressed from the settlement. The specific deductions depend on the facts of the case.

  • Are case expenses included in the attorney’s fee?

No. Case expenses and attorney’s fees are separate. The written agreement will explain how expenses are paid and deducted.

  • How much is the contingency fee?

The percentage is stated in the written agreement provided before representation begins. We will explain how the percentage is calculated and whether it can change depending on the stage of the case.

  • Do I have to pay a personal injury lawyer upfront?

You do not pay CPY Law upfront or hourly attorney’s fees for your personal injury case handled on a contingency basis. The attorney’s fee is paid from the recovery if we recover money for you.

  • Why Are Contingency Fees Important for Injured People?

After a serious injury, you may already be facing medical bills, missed work, pain, transportation difficulties, insurance calls, and uncertainty about the future.

A contingency fee allows you to seek legal help without adding hourly attorney’s fees to those immediate financial pressures.

It also allows the law firm to begin investigating and pursuing an accepted claim before receiving an attorney’s fee.

  • Is the Initial Consultation Free?

Yes. There is no charge for an initial personal injury consultation with CPY Law.

During the consultation, we may ask about:

    • How the incident happened
    • When and where it occurred
    • The injuries you suffered
    • The treatment you have received
    • The insurance companies involved
    • Any communications or offers you have received

We will discuss whether additional information is needed and whether CPY Law may be able to assist you.

There is no charge for the consultation, and speaking with us does not require you to hire the firm.

  • What Happens If There Is No Recovery?

If we do not recover money for you, you do not owe us an attorney’s fee.

  • What May Be Deducted From a Personal Injury Settlement?

A settlement amount is not necessarily the same as the amount the client ultimately receives.

Depending on the case, deductions may include:

    • The attorney’s fee
    • Authorized case expenses
    • Medical bills
    • Health-insurance reimbursement claims
    • Medicare, Medicaid, or other valid liens or subrogation interests
    • Other deductions authorized by the client or required by law

Before settlement proceeds are distributed, you should receive a written breakdown showing the recovery and all proposed deductions.

CPY Law will review that breakdown with you and answer your questions before the funds are distributed.
