A settlement amount is not necessarily the same as the amount the client ultimately receives.
Depending on the case, deductions may include:
- The attorney’s fee
- Authorized case expenses
- Medical bills
- Health-insurance reimbursement claims
- Medicare, Medicaid, or other valid liens or subrogation interests
- Other deductions authorized by the client or required by law
Before settlement proceeds are distributed, you should receive a written breakdown showing the recovery and all proposed deductions.
